Why do we learn other languages and cultures?
“By learning an additional language and its related culture(s), students come to appreciate that languages and cultures are systems that are organised and used in particular ways to achieve meaning. Learning a new language extends students’ linguistic and cultural understanding and their ability to interact appropriately with other speakers ... Through such interaction, students acquire knowledge, skills, and attitudes that equip them for living in a world of diverse peoples, languages, and cultures.”
Samoan Language Week 1
To celebrate Samoan Language Week, we are learning some Samoan songs. We know that music is a way that cultures are shown or expressed.

Making Mobiles
Hi everyone,
We have been working on mobiles today about our holidays and will be doing this for the next few days until we finish. Remember to bring a coat hanger or two sticks that are about 30 cm long to school to put your mobile together.

Today's Spelling
Today we used the letters in MY HOLIDAYS to spell as many words as we could. We were only allowed to use each letter once, except for Y. Once we found a word, we used the spelling pattern to make more - said, laid, paid, maid, maids......
